TRIBUTE PAID BY MR PARRY

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, February 7.

Paying a tribute to the personality and writings of Mr “Banjo” Paterson, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, expressed the opinion that all walks of life in the Commonwealth would feel that by the passing of “Banjo” they had been bereft of a mate who had inspired them and had interpreted the national spirit of their country. For the greater part of his adult life there had flowed from Mr Paterson’s facile pen splendid verse and jingle, all so characteristic of sunny Australia and also accurately portraying the Australian. The verses of “Banjo” Paterson breathed the sentiment of his country which would never die.
