BUILDING ACTIVITY IN CITY
During January permits were granted in the city for 10 new dwellings of a total value of £9740, according to the figures issued by the City Engineer’s Department. This is an increase compared with January of last year, when permits were issued for seven new dwellings, costing £7838. Last month two permits were issued for new business premises, at a cost of £355. In January 1940 the value of the permits for new business premises was £12,673, but that was an unusually good month. Alterations and additions brought the total value of last month’s permits to £11,967/10/-, compared with £20,991 in the same month last year.
