FREIGHTERS FOR ALLIES

(Received January 12, 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 11. A Norwegian-American combine has taken over the old Groton shipyards in Connecticut, which have been closed since the world war to build a 20,000,000 dollar fleet of freighters for the Allies’ merchant marine. It is expected that the construction of 9000-ton ships will start in a few weeks’ time under the direction of American engineers.
