KENNINGTON

TENNIS CLUB BALANCE-SHEET SHOWS CREDIT The 14th annual balance-sheet of the Kennington Tennis Club showed a satisfactory credit. The report was presented at a meeting in the Kennington Hall at which Mr G. T. Matheson presided over a good attendance. The annual report stated that the team had put up a creditable performance in the competition. Congratulations were extended to Miss Gladys Fox on gaining representative honours. Miss Fox, partnered by D. Hillis, had won the White Cup. During the season members of the club had made presentations to three members, Miss I. Henderson and Messrs J. McLew and T. McLew. A ball held during the year had proved a success. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr G. T. Matheson; vicepresidents, Mr S. J. Henderson and Mr E. Hargest; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. McLew; general committee, Mesdames J. Fox, S. J. Henderson, Misses M. Graham, I. Gray and G. Fox and Messrs S. J. Henderson, W. Henderson, D. Hillis, A. Peters, R. Shields and L. Mills; selection and ranking com- j mittee, Mrs J. Fox and Miss I. Gray and the secretary: club captain, Mrs J. Fox; deputy captain, Mr F. McLew; delegate to Southland Lawn Tennis Association, Mr F. McLew; auditor, Mr E. Hargest. It was decided to enter a team in the B grade competition. CHURCH SOCIAL The Kennington Presbyterian Church was well filled on the occasion of the annual church social presided over by the Rev. J. H. Thomson. A report detailing the activities in connection with the education of the young people was submitted and gave ample proof that this important branch of the church was being faithfully administered. The treasurer’s report on the finances of the Kennington-Oteramika charge, prepared by Mr G. White, showed a credit balance of £lO2. A programme was presented as follows: Solo, Mrs L. Whyte; recitation, Miss Phyllis Cloughley; song, Roslyn Bush Sunday School children; duet, Miss Nola and Master Jimmy Millssolo, Miss Cockburn; anthem, Myross Bush Church choir; address, the Rev. H. Graham (Invercargill); solo, Mrs Caldwell; anthem, Myross Bush choir (soloists, Mrs Caldwell and Mr J. Caldwell); duet, Mrs Caldwell and Miss Cockburn; solo, Mr J. Caldwell; anthem, the choir.

The accompanists for the evening were Mrs Calvert and Miss Anderson. Mr Thomson moved a vote of thanks to all performers who had helped to make the social a success.
