CHRISTMAS PARCELS FOR TROOPS DONATIONS RECEIVED IN DISTRICT
Donations and goods received by the secretary (Mr A. Castle) in response to the appeal of the local Women’s Patriotic Committee for comforts for tire Christmas parcels for the men overseas are acknowledged as follows: Mr J. Eccleton, Miss V. Cassels, Miss M. Galloway and Mrs J. W. Martin 10/— each, Miss Petchell, Mrs Pascoe, Miss Allan 5/- each, Mrs C. W. Pierson, Miss M. B. Mills, Misses Densham, Miss D. Barrett 10/- each, Mrs A. E. Ward 5/-, Mrs A. E. McLaren 10/-, Mrs M. Playfair £l, Basketball girls £l, Mrs Lapham 10/-, previously received 30/-. Twenty tins of barley sugar, 2 packets of Minties, 6 packets of chewing gum, 5 packets of chocolate, 4 tins of fruit, 10 tins of cigarettes, 2 packets of cigarettes, 3 packets of pixie cheese, 8 cakes of soap, 2 packets of razor blades and 3 handkerchiefs have also been received. SCHOOL COMMITTEE The rector of the Riverton District High School reported to a meeting of the school committee that the primary school roll was 166 and the secondary roll 29, making a total of 195. Those present were Mr G. H. Millow, in the chair, Messrs C. J. R. Inder, J. A. Lee, G. Cloughley, J. A. Wilson, the secretary, Mr F. L. Girvan. Correspondence was received referring to the Bible in Schools and the matter was left with the rector.
It was decided to procure boxes for the collection of non-ferrous metals.
