MATAURA
ATHLETIC SOCIETY’S
YEAR BALANCE-SHEET CREDIT SHOWS INCREASE
The Mataura Athletic Society’s season had been much more successful than for some time past, stated the annual report of the society, with increased gate receipts on the day of the sports. These were accounted for largely by the inclusion of certain events which had been dropped during the past four or five years, and in consequence of a fine day for the gathering. The season began with a credit balance of £2O/11/1 and concluded with £49/4/9. Entries were also very satisfactory. After a lapse of several years bushcraft events had been reintroduced, and the step taken by the committee had been well justified, the report added. Another innovation was a clay bird shoot which proved one of the biggest draws, and the committee was grateful to Messrs C. Bonney and M. Walker, who controlled this section. Appreciation of the generosity of donors of cash and trophies for the prize list was expressed.
