YEAR’S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED

INSTITUTE OF SECRETARIES’ ANNUAL MEETING Reviewing the activities of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries, Southland Chapter, during the past year, the annual report, which was presented at the chapter’s ninth annual meeting last night, stated that three general meetings had been convened, and addresses had been delivered by Messrs L. F. Moller, LL.B., on “Life at Oxford,” F. G. Hall-Jones on “International Situation,” J. L. Sutton on “Sundry Debtors.” A pleasing feature of the year had been the large number of candidates who came forward for examination. Messrs C. H. Walsh and J. A. R. Walker had been successful in passing the final papers and had been admitted as associate members. Mr C. H. Walsh gained the highest marks for New Zealand at tjie October examinations and was awarded the silver medal of the institute.

The following members of the local chapter were on active service:— Messrs A. W. Cooper, L. A. Blackmore, A. J Neil, and at least one other will be proceeding to camp soon. The committee wished to place on record its sincere thanks for the invaluable work carried out by its secretary (Mr B. Noble). Mr Noble had been nominated for the chapter seat on the council and it felt sure that his nomination would be supported by all members.

The membership of the chapter had remained steady during the year. The year had been started with a roll of 51. Two new members were admitted, one member was transferred to the Otago chapter, and one raised from licentiate to associate.

The following officers were elected:— Executive committee: Messrs C. J. McEachran, H. C. Gimblett, W. F. Sturman, C. B. Gibbs, V. W. Boyes, J. R. E. Sutton, C. Campbell, J. W. Wood, R. C. Cook, P. A. Holmes; honorary secretary and, treasurer, Mr B. Noble; honorary auditor, Mr R. R. Binney. At a meeting of the executive committee, which was also held, Mr Wood was elected chairman of the committee and Mr Gibbs was elected vice-chair-man.
