ARBOR DAY A pleasant afternoon was held at the Dipton school on Arbor Day, when members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and parents assembled to plant a centennial tree. Mrs J. S. McDonald, president of the Women’s Division, extended a welcome. One tree was planted by Miss H. Ross, the oldest Dipton school pupil in the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union. Another tree presented to the school pupils by the Women’s Division wag’' planted by Joan Sinclair and a third tree, a donation from Mrs D. McRae, was also planted in the school ground by Mrs Mcßae. After the tree-planting ceremony, a short concert was given by the pupils as follows:— Song, infants, “Wake up Buttercups and Daisies”; recitation, infants, “Tomatoes”; song, girls, “The Lass With the Delicate Air”; recitation, “Called Up,’ Ross Lindsay and George Rachley; duet, George Calder and Noeline Giles, “I Saw Three Ships”; recitation, Beryl Shuttleworth, “Weather”; duet, Marie Bryce and Hazel Downie, “Come Away Sang the River”; recitation, Russell McDonald, “Jam Pot”; rhythm, Primer I; song, seniors, “Trees”; verse speaking, Noeline Giles, Hazel Downie, Joyce Shuttleworth, “In A Hat Shop”; mouthorgan solo, Joan Sinclair; mouth-organ duet, Ruth and Gwen Mayer; accorI dion solo, Henry Lindsay; mouth-organ solo, Mervyn Wilson. The accompaniments were played by Miss Wood and Moira O’Callaghan. There was an excellent display of hand-craft on view.
