INVERCARGILL QUEEN CARNIVAL

CORONATION CEREMONY TONIGHT

Record attendances are expected at the Civic Theatre tonight for the crowning of the successful candidate in the Invercargill Metropolitan Patriotic Committee’s Queen Carnival. The final full-dress rehearsal was held yesterday and the Queen (Miss Helen Hargest) ■ and her princesses appeared in the coronation robes which presented a spectaculai sight. The actual crowning ceremony will be carried out by the chairman of the executive of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council, Mr W. Grieve. Several members of the Women’s Patriotic Committee will receive honours at the hands of the Queen and the male members of the Queen Carnival Committee ■ will be knighted. High officers of the Court will be Messrs G. J. Reed, W. Buchan, T. Cran. Miss Madge Flaus will be the mistress of the robes and Mr Alex. Sutherland, is the producer. An excellent programme has been arranged’ and patrons can be sure of a good night’s, entertainment. The Returned Soldiers’ Association party is presenting entirely new items and the ' soloists will be Messrs A. W. Kummert, Rewi Kingsland and F. Johnston. Day sales for the gallery for the evening performance are at Matheson’s. The matinee tomorrow will be at 2 p.m.

There is no booking for this performance. The performance will be given also at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Day sales are at Matheson’s for the evening performance and the box plan is open at Charles Begg and Co. “The Queen Carnival Committee of the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, wishing to help parents, decided to hold a matinee on Friday,” said the chairman of the Queen Carnival Committee Mr P. L. Hodge, 1 when referring to a letter written by “Army, Air Force, Navy” which appeared in the correspondence columns of The Southland Times yesterday. This was done to enable children to attend for a low charge.
