OBITUARY
MR E. W. FAHEY The death occurred at Mabel Bush recently of Mr Edmond William Fahey. Mr Fahey was born at St. Bathan’s, Central Otago, in 1880 and received his education there. He was the only son of Mr and Mrs Michael Fahey and was engaged in gold mining for some years, later joining the New Zealand Railways. At the beginning of the Great War he joined the Main Body and' served on Gallipoli and in France. When he returned to New Zealand he took up farming at Gladbrook Settlement near Middlemarch and in 1929 he moved to Mabel Bush where he lived until his death.
Mr Fahey was interested in football, cricket and racing and in his younger days was considered to be one of the best forwards ever produced in Otago Central.
Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Rakauhauka Catholic Church and the burial service took place at the Eastern Cemetery with military honours, the Rev. Father McGettigan conducting the service. Mr Fahey is survived by two sisters, Misses-- Nora and Catherine Fahey (Mabel Bush), four nieces, Mrs W. P. Scully (Winton), Mrs H. O. Matheson (Lower Hutt), Mrs H. Prendergast (Hyde) and Sister O’Connell (Palmerston), and a nephew, Mr E. W. O’Connell (Mabel Bush).
