LESS MOVEMENT IN LAND Registrations of mortgages during May numbered 1999, valued at £1,473,091, and discharges numbered 2048 for an aggregate value of £1,380,781. A comparison of the first five months I of the current calendar year with a I similar period of 1939 reveals that both ■ registrations and discharges are on a | lower level than in 1939, the percentage | decreases being 20.8 in number and 1 28.1 in value for registrations, and 11.7 in number and 8.5 in value for discharges. Land transfers in May numbered 2649 for a total monetary consideration of £2,035,861, compared with 2395 transfers for a consideration of £2,018,623 in April. A comparison of land transfer registrations during the expired five months of the present calendar year with the corresponding period of 1939 reveals a decrease of 1325 (11.4 per cent.) in number and £451,470 (5.3 per cent.) in consideration.
