PARTY LEADERS CONFER
Joint Control Of War Effort
PLANS APPROACHING FINALITY
STATEMENT POSSIBLE IN HOUSE TODAY
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 15.
The negotiations between the Government and the Opposition to devise some satisfactory method of joint control of the war effort appear to be approaching some finality. The party leaders had conversations during the week-end and it is likely that after further consideration of the proposals tomorrow morning the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) will be in a position to make a statement when the House meets in the afternoon.
No hint is forthcoming from either side as to what may happen, but it is understood that the main topic of the discussions has been the formation of a war Cabinet in which there will be two members of the Opposition, who will be members of the executive council without portfolio. This body will direct war organization only and will, of course, not interfere in any way with domestic issues.
