DIPTON

SINGING CLASS RECITAL The first recital given by the Dipton members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Singing Class was held in the Public Hall. There was a very large attendance. The programme reflected much credit on Mr J. Simpson, of Gore, who is tutor of the classes. Mrs J. S. McDonald, president, welcomed those present and introduced Mr Simpson. The programme was as follows:—Part songs, “Come Lasses and Lads” (traditional) and “Joy of Heaven” (Beethoven) class members; solos, Miss J. Sinclair, “Old-fashioned Garden”; Miss N. Hall, “Alohi”; Miss F. Mincher, Brahms’s “Lullaby”; Miss R. Toole, “Acushla Mine”; women’s trio, “True Love,” Mesdames M. Urguhart, F. S. Sinclair, L. A. Whitaker; comedy sketch, Mrs Major, Misses B. Mcßae and E. Milligan; double quartet, women members; solos, Toscelli’s “Serenata” and “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes,” Mr J. Simpson; male quartet Lumsden class, Messrs J. Monk, A. Ward, R. Hazlett and G. Ward; women’s trio, “It was a Lover and His Lass,” Misses K. Shand, J, Ward and Mr R. Hazlett (Lumsden); solo, “Poor Wandering One,” Miss B. Mcßae; one-act play, “Selling a Villa,” Mesdames Whitaker, Flint, Misses Wood and Lane and Mr D. Milligan; part songs, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” (soloist, the Rev. I. R. Polson) and “Carnival Ball” (Schubert); class members; Empire scene, soloists Mrs Major, Misses T. McCurdy, K. Shand, B. Mcßae, D. Mincher, Messrs R. Hazlett, J. Monk and the Rev. I. R. Polson.

At the end of the programme Mr James Simpson sang “There will always be an England,” the class members joining in the chorus. The accompanists were Miss K. Shand, J. Wood, I. McCurdy and D. Keown (Lumsden). ANGLICAN CHURCH The annual general meeting of the Anglican Church was held at the residence of Mrs L. A. Whitaker. The Rev. B. O. Plumb presided over the following: Mr and Mrs W. T. Sinclair, Mr and Mrs R. A. Palmer, Mesdames B. O. Plumb, W. L. Cunningham, J. N. Colyer, G. Reece, W. H. Whitaker, L. A. Whi-’ taker and Miss L. Lane. The balancesheet showed a small debit balance.

The following officers were elected:— Vicar’s warden, Mr W. T. Sinclair; people’s warden, Mr D. Evans, sen.; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. A. Palmer; collectors, Messrs W. T. Sinclair and G. J. Martin; delegates to central vestry, Messrs Sinclair and Martin; vestry, Mesdames J. N. Colyer, W. L. Cunningham, R. A. Palmer, P. Martin, G. Reece, W. H. Whitaker, L. A. Whitaker, D. Evans, sen., Miss L. Lane, Messrs W. McCoy and G. Martin; mission box secretaries, Mr and Mrs Sinclair; auditor, Mrs L. Whitaker; flower show organizer, Mrs L. Whitaker.
