MEN ENLISTING FOR SERVICE
POSITION EXPLAINED BY MINISTER (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 28. Complaints made by Territorials that on joining up they are required to sign a form making them liable for service anywhere were referred to the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), who pointed to the regulations issued a week ago doing away with the voluntary system of recruiting for the military forces. Under these new conditions all enlistments on and after last. Monday, June 24, are to be for universal service, that is any section of the armed forces including service in New Zealand and overseas.
The regulations, said the Minister, expressly provided that only men who had attained the age of 21 years and. had not reached the age of 41 years would be drawn for service overseas. Any ballot for overseas service would include men serving in the Territorial force or in home defence.
