HEATER FOR SOUTH HILLEND HALL
To The Editor Sir, —Will you please publish this letter, together with the enclosed statement from the South Hillend Hall Committee. In fairness to the 50-odd persons who subscribed towards the purchase of a heater, I think the statement should be made public. At the meeting held here, it was understood that the hall committee’s only objection to the purchase of a heater was lack of finance, but now that the money has been provided the committee still refuses to get on with the job, and as far as I am concerned there the matter rests. —Yours, etc., H. O’NEILL. June 20, 1940. The enclosure reads as follows: Mr H. O’Neill, I have to instruct you regarding the heater. The following resolution was passed by a full attendance of the hall committee:
“That the secretary write to Mr H. O’Neill, as chairman of the public meeting regarding the heater, and advise him that the hall committee would not interest itself in, or accept responsibility for, the purchase of a heater decided upon by the public meeting. The committee does not object to the installation of the heater and will pay back all money collected for the heater and given to the hall committee. It would be necessary also to put the heater in to the committee’s requirements.”—Yours, etc., F. H. PLUNKETT, Hon. Secretary, South Hillend Hall Committee
