REQUESTS MADE BY INDIVIDUALS

APPLICATIONS TO CITY COUNCIL

“I wish to draw the committee’s attention to the great and increasing number of requests for the carrying out of small and isolated jobs asked for by individuals,” stated the report of the city engineer (Mr F. M. Corkill) to the Invercargill City Council last night. “While often trivial in themselves such jobs as improvements to an individual flank or the alteration of a water table involve a cost out of proportion to their consequence if men and vehicles have to be sent out specially to attend to them. I have numerous requests of that nature sent to me, and instant action and dislocation of ordinary routine is expected. While every endeavour is made to attend to all matters of complaint it will be realized that the very limited funds do not allow the carrying out of this promiscuous and often quite unnecessary work.
