162 RAFFLE BOOKS SOLD ON STREETS

An excellent response was made by the public of Gore to the drive by Red Cross workers and others for the sale of raffle tickets in the eight-horse-power car which was given for patriotic purposes. The car was on view in Main street on Friday and Red Cross nurses and others patrolled the 1 streets selling tickets. A preliminary count on Saturday morning revealed that 162 books, representing £162, had been sold, and of this amount Red Cross nurses were responsible for collecting £l3O. A number of books have still to be returned and it is anticipated that an additional substantial sum will be received. The resale of tickets returned to the committee realized £3. The 162 books sold represents 3240 tickets. On Friday night goods donated to the Patriotic Committee were auctioned from the platform in Main street. Three tons of coal given by Mr John Miller, of East Gore, and three tons of coal given by the Hakariri Coal Company, realized £2/15/and £2/12/6 respectively Firewood donated by Mr A. Nicholson was sold at 15/-. Items were given by the Gore Pipe Band during the evening. PATRIOTIC FUND Additional donations to the Gore Patriotic Fund are acknowledged as follows:—
