DEFEATISM IS CRIMINAL
Nazis “Will Break Down” (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) LONDON. June 14. Mr Harold Nicolson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Information, in a speech said that defeatism today was criminal. The Germans had captured and might destroy Paris, but the French Army was unbroken “The moment must come,” he said, “when the German armoured divisions will break down and the men will drop from fatigue. The moment may come as the French entrench south of Paris. “It will not be on the dry land of Europe that the war will be won. It will be on the seas, in the air and in distant continents as soon as the unlimited resources of the British Empire and the Americas can be mobilized. “The war will end as a war of character. The German people do not possess that strength of character. Momentarily, they are flushed with victory, confident of their infallibility and on their leader, but when the great Hitler myth is exploded their hearts will quail at their inevitable doom. “Hitler prophesied that he would occupy Paris on June 15, and that he would bring England to her knees on August 15. He has fulfilled the first. The second shall not be fulfilled.”
