SICK, WOUNDED AND DISTRESS FUND

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 17. The Dominion organizer of the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund appeal, Major J. Abel, announced tonight that the total received up to today, the fifth day of the appeal, was £26,450, made up as follows:—Auckland, £6500; Wellington, £3200; Canterbury, £6000; Dunedin, £3500; Napier, £2500; Blenheim, £150; Palmerston North, £2500; Wanganui,. £800; direct to National board, £l3OO. Advice was received today by Major Abel that the employees of Borthwicks Freezing Works, Waitara, have held a meeting to decide how they could help the appeal. The men decided that each would give a day’s wages to the fund. It is expected that the fund will benefit by about £5OO.
