RESULTS OF WAIAU COMPETITION

TUATAPERE A BEATEN BY PUKEMAORI A

The following are the results of the first series of matches in the Waiau Basketball Association’s competition: Pukernaori A 14 beat Tuatapere A 9; Orepuki 10 beat Clifden 7; Papatotara 24 beat Western Star 4; Tuatapere B 6 drew with Pukernaori B 6.

The game between Pukernaori A and Tuatapere A was played at Tuatapere. In the first half the play was very even for the first 10 minutes. Tuatapere then ran up a lead and at half-time the score was 6-3 in Tuatapere’s favour. In the second half, Pukernaori soon evened the scores and then began to show its superiority in handling and passing, especially in the centre third. Tua, tapere’s goal throwing was inaccurate, especially in the second half when playing against the bright sun. In the last 10 minutes of the game the Tuatapere players tired and could not overtake Pukemaori’s lead. The teams were:

Pukernaori: I. Burns, J. Burns, J. Froude; I. King (captain), V. King, M. Froude; G. Froude, B. Rayner, M. Todd. Tuatapere: B. McKay, B. Charlton, S. Dixon, E. Mclntyre, O. Beer, I. Knowler, B. McLeod (captain), M. Densley, A. Stuck. The draw for next week is as follows: Orepuki v. Pukernaori A, at Pukernaori; Tuatapere A v. Clifden, at Clifden; Western Star v. Tuatapere B, at Tuatapere; Pukernaori B v. Papatotara, at Papatotara. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING TE ANAU CLUB’S OPENING SHOOT There was a good attendance of members at the first shoot of the Te Anau Miniature Rifle Club. The scores were good for an opening night. J. Riordan, with 78.2, won the Macauley Button and J. Blatch 76.3, won the Riordan Button. The following were the scores: u. Carroll 71.2, T. Plato 71.2, J. Isaacs 45, A. McGregor 69, A. Newton 33, C. Herron 74.4, W. Riordan 70.3, C. Low 41, J. Riordan 78.2, L. Blatch 65, W. Beer 73.2, H. White 73, W. Taylor 64, C. Beer 71.2, J. Blatch 76.3, Miss Saunders 23, Mrs Carroll 66.
