FLASH GUY HAS PROSPECTS

A CHANGE FOR LUNCH HOUK ANOTHER CHANCE FOR INDIAN WRACK Acceptances for the Forbury Park meeting close at 5 p.m. tomorrow. Globe Derby Globe Derby has now sired 274 individual winners. Reply To Correspondent “Reader,” Invercargill.—Gold Bank is handicapped on his correct one mile and a-half mark (3.25) at Forbury Park. In Form On the strength of his second to Jesse Owens at Hutt Park Regal is entitled to be one of the favourites for the President’s Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday. Popular Race The mile saddle event, the Electric Handicap at Oamaru has drawn 18 acceptors. Several of those engaged are capable of running a great mile. Guy Azaleas Guy Azaleas, who is engaged at Oamaru on Saturday, is a Southlandbred gelding by Adioo Guy from Azaleas, the dam of Tritoma, Picotee, Azure and others. Useful Pacer Flash Guy will be a possibility among the improvers at Invercargill on Saturday. He showed a brilliant turn of speed at Riverton after losing ground at the start. Another Chance Indian Wrack will have another chance to win his way from the novice ranks on Saturday. The mile and fivefurlong journey will suit him better than the majority providing he secures a good run. Lunch Hour

Lunch Hour, a half-brother by Great Bingen to Nelson’s Victory, Erin’s Fortune, Carver Doone and others is likely to race in the colours of a Nightcaps owner in future.

Cavalryman A winner at Auckland on Saturday in Cavalryman is by a little-known sire in Nobleman from Beverley Audubon. Nobleman was got by Native King from the imported mare Princess Ann, also the dam of Royal Chenault and Gamble. Beverley Audubon was got by Great Audubon from St. Ursula, by Papanui (son of Wildwood) from Lucy Hinton, by Bell Boy. Ropata Consistent No matter how well Ropata races he invariably has to be content with a share of the minor money, and two further third platings were credited

to him at Hutt Park. This season the David McElwyn horse has raced on 10 occasions for one second, six thirds, and a fourth.

A Speedy Pacer

Jack Spratt showed speed in his races at Greymouth on Saturday, but apparently he is not a true racehorse. In each start he lost a good deal of ground and while he was able to pick it up and beat the maiden pacers he was opposed to, he will encounter much stronger opposition in the near future. Speed is not everything in trotting. Racing temperament is the main consideration.

Stayers Neglected There is not a single race of two miles on the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s programme, a sure sign that the club is not doing its best to encourage the right class of pacer or trotter, comments The Press, Christchurch. The Forbury Park Club has evidently followed the example set by the Ashburton Trotting Club, which, however, holds its meetings on a track of one mile and three furlongs in circumference. The Ashburton course provides a true test for stayers, but at Forbury Park the track is only five furlongs in circumference. It is possible that at the next meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Trotting Conference a remit, making compulsory the inclusion of at least two races over two miles on an eight-race programme, will be introduced. It would be fitting if the New Zealand Trotting Association fathered such a remit.
