INTEREST-FREE LOAN OF £10,000

MASONIC GRAND LODGE (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The Board of General Purposes of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand, its chief administrative body, decided at a meeting held yesterday to recommend to the Grand Lodge that an interest-free loan of £lO,OOO be made to the Government for the period of the duration of the war and six months after. The board also decided upon a gift of £5OOO to the National Patriotic Council. This amount is to be allocated as follows:—£2soo for the general purposes of the patriotic fund, and £2500 for the relief of the sick, wounded and distressed. The Grand Master, Mr C. J. Ronaldson, in announcing these decisions to the Grand Lodge last evening, said these dispositions would be further proof to the world that freemasonry took an active part in furthering the welfare of the countries in which it resided.
