STORMTOST WELL PLACED

WARFIELD’S SOUND LINES

JORRICKS EXPECTED TO IMPROVE Acceptances for the first day of the Forbury Park meeting close at 5 p.m. on Friday. Change Of Stables Recent additions to L. A. Maidens’s team include Siege Gun and Jackaranda. Well Related Warfield, winner of the Gladstone Handicap at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, is a brother to Marsceres, Battlefield and Battlevale. Reads Well Stormtost is nicely placed at Oamaru on Saturday and as he won the chief event at the Westland meeting, he will be in firm favour. Not Prominent Katene, who made his first appearance in the North Island at Auckland on Saturday, was not in the picture at any stage. Improvement Expected Jorricks, who is to contest the novice event at the Southland meeting has been entered for a 3.38 class at the Forbury Park meeting. Jorricks is a member of J. R. McMurray’s Gore team. Interesting Entrant The two-year-old Walter Moore will be an interesting runner among the improvers at Forbury Park. In two starts to date he won one in brilliant style and in the other he galloped off the mark and would not settle down. Marque Sold Marque, who created a good impression by securing a first and a second at the recent Wellington meeting, has been sold, and she has joined up with T. H. Gunning’s stable at Oamaru. Marque has been making gradual improvement throughout her racing campaign this season, and her latest deeds suggest that she will continue to win races from her present mark. Three Bells Back Three Bells has recently been on the easy list at Epsom because of an enlarged knee, but he has made a good recovery and was out doing light work last week. The son of Truman Direct has proved a profitable investment since being sent north, and this season alone he has secured two firsts and four seconds. Change Of Stables Belfast Jack and Fortex, previously trained by M. Stewart, at Te Rapa, are now under the care of R. Dunn. The latter has not met with the best of fortune since setting up in the north, but with these two improving pacers in his stable he should experience a more profitable run in the future. Millisle’s Form Consistency is not one of the characteristics of Millisle. He sandwiches in some brilliant performances between mediocre ones. Time is on his side, however. He is a young horse as trotters go and it may happen that he has a winning run in prospect, remarks a Christchurch writer. His followers hope so. He was registered on September 1, 1938, being then three years old. Hence he is only a four-year-old. He was bred by Mr C. McKay at Hedgehope, Southland, and is by Peter Moko, a horse imported from America by Mr W. G. Bright, who was a popular Westport sportsman. When he purchased Peter Moko, Mr Bright went to Auckland to live, but a few years later Peter Moko did stud duty in Southland. The dam of Millisle is Plain Dolly, which was sired by Young McKinney, her dam being a Blacksmith mare. She was foaled in 1913, and was 22 years old when Millisle was born. She was bred by Mr D. McKay, and was registered in 1920. She competed in only one race, at Winton in February 1920, but finished down the course. In spite his seven wins during the 14 months he has been racing, Millisle has proved costly to those who have backed him at every start. He made his first appearance in the Ferry Handicap at Wyndham on March 18 last year. He was driven by his owner, N. J. Gatley, started eighth favourite, and finished down the course. He appeared again on the same day, and finished fourth to Hatrack, Traveltone and Late Harvest in the Menzies Handicap, a two-rnile race. He continued to progress under his owner, who has met with a good measure of
