LAMB SCHEDULE
To The Editor
Sir, —In The Southland Times of Monday, April 29, Mr Derbie is reported to have said: “It would be a simple matter for us to bring a few lots of lambs from South Canterbury and pay more than the schedule agreed on, but that would be grossly unfair to the Southland producers.” The implication that t]ie Canterbury company by its system of payment ifi unfair to the Canterbury farmers is merely stupid. Farmers from Kaikoura in the north to Tuatapere in the south who send stock to the Canterbury company enjoy exactly 'the same treatment and benefits.—Yours, etc., A. NAPPER. April 30, 1940. DANGEROUS BEND AT MATAURA To The Editor Sir,—ln The Southland Times this morning under the heading, “Car Leaves Road,” another accident at the bend in the main road at the Mataura saleyards is reported. This is a matter which you and all concerned can do something about, especially the Mataura Town Board. The car was, to my knowledge, the third one to have left i the road on that corner. I myself have been off the road there in broad daylight. i In my opinion it is the worst corner on the whole length of road from Dunedin to Invercargill. I would suggest removing the light from its present position to the opposite position and also constructing a post and rail just below it. The rail should be painted white, and need not be large enough to inconvenience anybody. I hope these suggestions will be adopted before someone is killed. As a frequent user of the road I must admit that I dread that corner.—Yours, etc., MOTORIST. April 29, 1940.
