INVERCARGILL RETAINS LAING SHIELD Conditions were extremely unpleasant for the match between the Invercargill and Queen’s Park golf clubs on Saturday afternoon. A bitterly cold westerly wind blew and although it was fine when play began rain set in about the middle of the afternoon and there were several heavy showers. Most of the players did not complete the round and it was decided to ‘ wash out” the inter-club fixture and play it at a later date. However, the match for the Laing Shield was completed at Otatara, each side winning three games. Invercargill retained the trophy because it was more holes up than Queen’s Park. Following are the results, Invercargill names being given first: — H. W. Rogers beat D. W. Cochrane, 4 and 3. J. D. Strettell beat G. E. Glennie, 1 up. D. F. Lindsay beat G. A. Patterson, 4 and 3. A.
