ADHERENCE TO LAMB SCHEDULE

ACTION OF SOUTHLAND COMPANIES

“The Southland companies have paid and will continue to pay the schedule as fixed by a committee representing all South Island companies,” said Mr A. Derbie, general manager of the Southland Frozen Meat Co., Ltd., on Saturday when asked to comment on the statements about the lamb schedule rates made at the meeting of the Southland executive of the Farmers’ Union on Friday. Mr Derbie said he did not intend to enter into a discussion on the points raised at the meeting. “In answer to a question put by the president (Mr E. A. Cameron), I said that it was evident that ‘one company’ did not adhere to the schedule not ‘some companies’ as reported,” Mr Derbie said. “It would be a simple matter for us to bring a few lots of lambs from South Canterbury and pay more than the schedule agreed on, but that would be grossly unfair to the Southland producers.”
