PUKERAU
POSTMASTER BIDDEN FAREWELL PRESENTATION MADE TO MR A. G. OSBORN
There was a representative attendance in the Pukerau Hall when Mr A. G. Osborn, who has filled the position of postmaster at Pukerau for the past five years and has been transferred to Wairau Valley, was tendered a farewell social and dance. Mr A. P. McDonald presided, and stated that it was not a very pleasant duty to say farewell to such a fine citizen as Mr Osborn, but all were pleased to know that he had earned promotion in the service. The large attendance, he said, was a tribute to Mr Osborn’s worth and to the Postal Department in general. Mr Osborn had a very efficient staff, and his dealings with the public had bpen very amicable. The speaker had pleasure, on behalf of the district residents, in asking the guest to accept a travelling rug, a box of writing utensils and a sum of money together with the best wishes of all for his future success. Speaking on behalf of the Tennis Club Mr L. J. Potter stated that Mr Osborn’s departure meant a serious loss to the club, of which he was a valued member, having been. secretary during his residence in the district and one of the club’s most consistent players. The strong membership and the healthy
state of the club’s finances were due to his energies. Mr Osborn, he said, had done a great deal to foster the game in the district and frequently gave prizes for the winners of tournaments he arranged at various times. In reply Mr Osborn gratefully acknowledged the generous gifts and the kindly references to his work. He had enjoyed his association with the Tennis Club and was proud to have been a member of the team to win the West Otago Association’s competition last year.
