GORE Miss L. Sutherland, of Melbourne, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs W. D. Shelton, Albany street, will leave on her return to Australia today. Her mother, Mrs S. Sutherland, will accompany her as far as Timaru. Mrs S. Newell, of Rangiora, who has been the guest of Mrs W. L. Scott, Mature, has returned north. Miss Gladys Wilson, Kitchener street, who has been spending a holiday at Christchurch, has returned home. Mrs J. L. Page and Mrs J. Brown, of Dunedin, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs C. H. Richardson, Gorton street, have returned north. Mr and Mrs G. Armitage, of Fairlie, who have been visiting Gore have returned to Fairlie. The Rev. A. T. Kent and Mrs Kent left Gore yesterday for Waimate, where they will in future live. Mrs W. J. Tither, Irving street, is a holiday at Churstchurch and the West Coast. Miss J. Whytock, Lyne street, left last week for Napier, where she will live. Mr and Mrs R. A. McDowell, of Oamaru, who were the guests of Mrs J. A. Edwards, Otikerama, at the weekend, returned home on Sunday. The well-known pianist, Mr Paul Schramm, was entertained at a bridge party given by Dr and Mrs R. G. Stokes, Irk street, during his visit to Gore last week. Those playing were: Mr and Mrs E. H. W. Rowntree, Mr and Mrs H. H. Doughty, Mrs J. M. Boyne, Mrs A. B. Caverhill, Mrs J. E. Rogers, Miss Mollie Rogers, Messrs W. B. Johnston and 0. J. Howells. BLUFF Mrs A. C. McKillop, Bradshaw street, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Roma McKillop, Bradshaw street, is visiting Christchurch where she will attend the Archerfield Old Girls’ Association’s ball. . Miss Malcolm, of the Bluff teaching staff, has left to take up a position in Invercargill. The ladies of the Bluff Golf Club held their opening bridge night in the Plunket rooms on Monday, April 8, and had a most successful function. The prizes were won by Mr W. Fisher and Mrs W. E. S. Mason. It was decided to fall in with the Patriotic Committee and to postpone the fixture for April 22 until Monday, May 6. WINTON Mrs L. McKenzie, of Invercargill, is the guest of Miss N. Grant, “Oakfield,” Limehills. Miss Jean Nimmo, New road, spent the week-end at Thornbury as the guest of Mrs C. McLean. Miss Heads, of Invercargill, is the guest of Miss C. Thomson, Albert street. Mrs W. J. Bews, Home street, spent a few days in Dunedin recently. Mrs J. T. Hobbs is on holiday in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. McDermott, Albert street, left last week to spend a holiday in the North Island. Mrs A. Tapper, of Invercargill, spent a few days with Miss I. Shand, Great North road, recently. Misses H. and J. Nicholson, Devereux road, have returned from a holiday in Christchurch and Wellington. Mrs E. Watt is staying in Christchurch.

Mrs A. Nicholson, Devereux road, is spending a holiday in Dunedin. A social evening was held in the Oddfellows’ hall recently by the members of the Winton Women’s Institute in honour of two of its members who have recently been married. During the evening solos were sung by Mesdames T. N. Eastlake and R. Young and Misses R. Butler and E. Young played pianoforte solos. Competitions were won by Mesdames Pollock, Bryce and Miss V. Ogilvie. The president, Mrs J. Webb, presented Mrs A. McLeod and Mrs W. Gerrard with a gift, and wished them every success in the future. Mrs J. R. McKenzie endorsed the president’s remarks. WOODLANDS Mr and Mrs Robert McNatty have left on an extended motor tour of the North Island and South Island. Mrs Wheeler, Mataura, was the recent guest of her daughter, Mrs T. Scully. Miss Jean Dick, Waipango, was a visitor to Woodlands last week. Misses J. Johnstone and M. Giddings were visitors to Balclutha recently. . . Miss I. Jukes, Hedgehope, is the guest of Mrs E. Dewe. Miss Pearl Muir was the week-end guest of Miss Neilina Richmond, MaMr 'and Mrs J. Pye motored to Teviot, Central Otago, where they were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Swaney. Mr and Mrs D. A. Taylor, Mandeville, were staying with Mr and Mrs J. McHardy recently. Mrs H. Waddell visited her daughter, Mrs J. Speden, Main street, Gore, during the week. Mrs C. Mrs Tuffery has returned to her home at Wajmatua. Mr and Mrs Hickey, Balfour, recently visited Orepuki. Mr and Mrs L. G. Matheson, Riversdale, are spending a few days with Mr and Mrs D. Whelan. Mrs Edgerton, Winton, was a recent visitor to Orepuki. FAREWELL TO LUMSDEN RESIDENTS Mrs Upchurch and Mrs Butson, Lumsden, were hostesses at a social evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs F. J. Pearce, who have been transferred to Riverton. The evening was spent in games and dancing and Miss L. Biggar sang. During the evening Mr Upchurch

made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Pearce, and expressed the good wishes of those present to the guests of the evening. Mr Allison and Mr J. Pont also expressed regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Pearce.
