DEPOSITS AGAIN EXCEED WITHDRAWALS Deposits with the Post Office Savings Bank in February again exceeded withdrawals. Deposits totalled £2,130,095 and withdrawals £1,999,697, leaving an excess of deposits of £130,398. In February of 1939 deposits were £2,215,367 and withdrawals £2,669,087, leaving an excess of withdrawals of £453,720. In January of this year deposits exceeded withdrawals for the first time since August 1928. The excess deposits in January amounted to £150,123. For the 11 months of 1939-40 to the end of February, withdrawals from the Post Office exceeded deposits by £4,492,550, and for the corresponding period of 1938-39 by £3,644,133. Trustee savings banks have also had an excess of withdrawals in the 11 months of 1939-40 to the end of February, the amount being £359,122 against an excess of deposits of £139,614 for the corresponding period of the previous year.
