SOCIAL SECURITY FUND
INCREASED PAYMENTS IN FEBRUARY
Most classes of payments made from the Social Security Fund for February showed increases over those of the previous month, according to the latest issue of the Abstract of Statistics. The latest return of receipts shown is for January, when the amount collected was £511,985, compared with £658,000 in December. The revenue in January was made up as follows: —Registration fees, £8645; charge on salaries or wages, £455,757 charge on company income, £15,420; charge on other income, £29,774; penalties, £1735; miscellaneous, £654. For the 10 months ended January 31 the total collection was £7,880,409. Payments of Social Security benefits in February under the principal headings were:—Age, £556,020; invalidity, £79,519; widows, £68,789; hospital, £58,774; maternity, £36,316; ana family, £23,632. Unemployment benefits dropped in number from 4200 in January to 3995 in February, payments showing a corresponding decline from £26,850 to £23,609. Sickness benefits rose in number from 2574 in January to 2764 in February, and the payments increased from £17,651 to £20,195.
