DOG TRIALS AT CROYDON
GORE CLUB’S ANNUAL FIXTURE 1 TWO EVENTS TO BE DECIDED TODAY I? i;; •i ■; n ■ Record entries were received by the Gore Sheep Dog Trials Club for its thirty-fourth annual trials, which began on Thursday on McLeod brothers’ property at Croydon Siding and were continued yesterday. The trials will end today, when the open huntaway and long pull events will be conducted. Mr D. R. Lawlor is president of the club this year and Mr T. McPhail is secretary. On Thursday only one event, the maiden heading event, was completed, 29 dogs taking part in this event. Competition was particularly keen and very few points separated the first foui placed dogs. Results:—
MAIDEN HEADING EVENT. For dogs that have never won a first prize. Head, pull and hold in ring. About 400 yards. Time, 8 minutes. First prize, £5 and Roche Cup (to be won twice), second £2, third £l, and fourth trophy. Points: Outrun 20, pull 25, hold in ring 5, command 10, total 60.

Jack went out on the right and he made a good head in lmin 41sec. He made a good lift and pulled in good line to the ring. He held well in ring.
Sweep cast to the right and went out wide to make a fair head in 2min llsec. He made a fair pull off hill, allowing the sheep slightly off the course on the flat and held well in ring. Roy cast to the right, and headed in lmin 40sec. He made a fair pull off the hill in good line and he held well in the ring. After going out on the left Madge was redirected several times. She then made a fair head in 2min 21sec. She lifted quietly, allowing the sheep to drift to left on the hill, and then went on to hold well in the ring. LEN’S SUCCESS Yesterday the open, head, pull and yard event was completed in the morning and was won by A. T. Miller’s (Clifton) Len. J. B. Queale (Lochiel) was prominent in this event and he secured a second with his dog Roy and a fourth with Bess. J. McCallum’s (Glencoe (R.D.) Ben Lomond was third. Details:—

Healey’s Laddie 13, J. Hickey’s Kip 16. Len made a good cast to the right and set the sheep before heading in 2min 17sec. He pulled very carefully off the hill to the yards. His work at the yards was very good and he yarded in 9min 15sec.
Roy also cast to the right and he made a good run out to make a fair head in 2min llsec. He was inclined to set the sheep befor. going round. He lifted carefully off the hill, but let sheep drift slightly to the left coming to the yards. He allowed the sheep to go around the yards several times before yarding in Bmin 40sec. Ben Lomond cast to the right, but was inclined to come in on the cast. He eventually made a good head in 2min 9sec. He was slow in lifting and he split the sheep. He yarded in 9min 45sec. Bess made a good head after going out on the right. She pulled carefully off the hill in good line but allowed the sheep to the left at the gully. She allowed the sheep around the yards several times and yarded in Bmin 39sec.
