The Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.C., returned to Invercargill by the express last evening. Mr John Dunlop, of Seaward Downs, left yesterday morning for Wellington. Dr J. Ramsay has been appointed assistant medical superintendent of the Southland Hospital. Mr J. Laurenson, of Dunedin, manager for Otago and Southland of the Vacuum Oil Proprietary Company, Ltd., is spending a few days in Invercargill. Dr Russell Chisholm, of Palmerston North, who has been on temporary duties at Ohakea Aerodrome, has enlisted for war service. Dr Chisholm, who has been honorary physician and obstetrician at the Palmerston North Publip Hospital, has been given leave of absence by the board. Mr R. T. Parsons has returned to Invercargill after spending holiday leave at Stewart Island with his wife and family. Mr M. F. Stevens, a foundation member of the Invercargill Male Choir, was met yesterday on the eve of his departure on transfer to Christchurch by members of the committee of the choir and presented with a barometer on which was an inscribed silver plate. Mr P. A. Pearce, the president, who made the presentation, referred to Mr Stevens’s long association with the choir, covering a period of 20 years, and mentioned that he had held the position of secretary and had served on the committee. Mr Stevens is employed in the locomotive'section of the Railways Department. Dr W. Service, Sydney, is in New Zealand on a holiday visit. Mr A. E. Cameron, assistant supervisor of the postal branch of the Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch, has retired on superannuation after 40 years’ service. Mr W. G. Nield, supervisor of the clerical staff at the Chief Post Office, Invercargill, will leave today for Auckland, where he will spend his annual holidays.
