HYMN TEST TO AUCKLAND
CENTENNIAL BAND CONTEST BEGINS INVERCARGILL BANDS NOT SUCCESSFUL (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 18. In the presence of a crowd estimated at 9000 at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, today the New Zealand centennial brass band contest was begun in fine weather. Twenty-two bands and more than 500 bandsmen from all parts of the Dominion competed in the hymn test which was won by Auckland Artillery with 93 points. Though the points awarded for the hymn test do not count toward the championship, the test devoted to sacred music is considered an essential part of the New Zealand brass band contest. The contest will be continued tomorrow and will conclude next Saturday.
