MAGISTRATES COURT A young man whose name was suppressed appeared before Mr W. D. Shelton, J.P., in the Gore Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning on a charge of stealing nine blank cheque forms valued at 1/6. He was remanded in custody until December 21. SUMMER GOLF The Gore Golf Club held a Stableford match over 12 holes when 21 members 1 took part. Conditions were good although there was a strong east wind, and the greens and fairways were in good order. i The match was won by L. T. Cockerill with 23 points, including six points handicap. M. S. Tansley was runner-up with 19 points and a handicap of IJ. The best cards were: —L. T. Cockerill, 17-6-23; M. S. Tansley, 19-li-20J; A. G. Melville, 11-9-20; C. R. Barron, 12-6-18; H. L. Smith, 12-SJ-17J; L. C. Barron. 13-4-17.

RIFLE SHOOTING The members of the Gore Defence Rifle Club fired a competition for a trophy presented by Mrs Knibbs. The conditions were variable, but there wgs some good shooting. F. Norton shot brilliantly for 102 off the rifle, winning the competition, the Mathews button and the range prizes at 500 and 600 yards. The range prize at 300 yards was won by W. D. Milne. The shootoff for last week’s range prize at 500 yards between F. Norton and J. F. Mallon was won by Norton. The following are the detailed scores with handicaps:—

This shoot completed the first half of the season’s programme. Mr C. M. Wilson’s prize for the first aggregate was won by V. Hornby with a grand total, including handicaps, of 401.
