Becoming Unsettled

WELLINGTON, December 12. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Light to moderate northerly winds predominating, weather fair at first but becoming unsettled from the west. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast: Still unsettled in Eastern areas between the East Cape and Kaikoura with occasional rain, but improving; elsewhere fair to fine at first, but with scattered rain later developing in Westland and in the far south. Temperatures moderate. General Situation. —The cyclone which crossed the North Island yesterday is now centred just east of the East Cape and is moving slowly south-eastwards. Winds.—Southerly to south-westerly from Cook Strait northwards; strong to gale force but gradually moderating from the north and west. Moderate north-easterlies predominating over the South Island. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate south of Farewell Spit and Banks Peninsula; elsewhere rough to very rough. Eastern Tasman Sea, strong southerly winds and rough seas in the northern portion, moderate northerly winds and slight seas in the southern portion. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm. The sun shone brightly during the day and its heat was tempered by a light breeze from the south-west. The weather at one oclock this morning was overcast but warm, with an indication of rain. The barometer readings for this morning, Tuesday and Moday have been: This morning 29.90 in. Tuesday 29.90 in. Monday 30.03 in.
