CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICIALS APPOINTED Officials for the Southland junior swimming championships to be held m the Municpal Baths tonight and on Thursday night were approved at a meeting of the Southland Swimming Centre last night. Mr J. C. Kirkland presided. The following water polo teams were A team: Morgan, Cockerell, Bath, Mitchell, Brown, Alexander, Bridgman. B team: M. Jones, McNeilage, Cameron, Springford, Martin, Bath. It was decided to inaugurate a B grade polo tournament immediately after the school holidays, consisting of junior and intermediate players. It was also resolved that a senior polo competition between Ex-Pupils and the rest be inaugurated with a view to picking a Southland team to meet Otago. The centre decided to resume Wednesday night polo, subject to the consent of the baths superintendent.

DATE OF REGATTA AT BLUFF

INVERCARGILL ROWERS’ SUPPORT Support for the decision of the Bluff Regatta Society to adhere _ to New Year’s Day as the date of its annual regatta was given in a letter from the Invercargill Rowing Club read at a

meeting of the committee of the society. The club congratulated the society on its decision, and stated that New Year’s Day was the most suitable for its oarsmen. A letter was received from the Bluff Harbour Board stating that it was prepared to grant all the usual facilities, including hiring the tug Awarua for harbour excursions. The secretary, Mr E. S. Russell, reported that he was meeting with an encouraging response in his canvassing. Mr A. E. Budd mentioned that the Southland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association was making an effort to have a bigger number of yachts at the regatta.
