SEQUEL TO BREAKING OF ENGAGEMENT
(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 4. A carpenter, William Arthur Roach, aged 23 years, was charged today with being intoxicated while in charge of a car on Saturday night. Sub-Inspector Pender said the accused’s car was on the footpath with its headlights full on and Roach was in the driver’s seat. “He told a constable,” said Sub-In-spector Pender, “that he had had a row with his young lady with the result that the engagement was broken off, and that he then went and got drunk.” The accused was sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment and his licence was cancelled.
