DOCUMENTS FOR AUSTRALIA
POSTMASTER AT BLUFF AS CENSOR z
Arrangements which are expected to obviate difficulties experienced by exporters as a result of delays in the despatch of shipping documents; to Australia, were outlined in a letter received at a meeting yesterday of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce from the acting Chief Postmaster (Mr C. E. Brian). “The difficulties which have been experienced by exporters because of the delays in the despatch of shipping documents to Australia as a result of censorship regulations and which were outlined in the chamber’s letter were represented to my head office,” stated the letter
“To meet the position, it has been decided to appoint the postmaster at Bluff as a postal censor for urgent and immediate cases. The procedure followed is for the shipping documents to be handed, sealed or unsealed, to the shipping company’s agent at the Bluff wharf and he will hand them over to the postmaster so that the censorship procedure may be followed. The censored articles will then be enclosed in a sealed mail bag and handed to the master of the vessel concerned for despatch with other mails. I trust that these arrangements, which should not be abused, will overcome the inconvenience at present experienced by exporters.” Gratification was expressed at the satisfactory arrangement that had been made.
