OBITUARY

MRS MARY H. GAMBLE The death occurred recently at Dunedin of Mrs Mary H. Gamble, late of Taieri and Central Otago, at the age of 79 years. Born in Riggend, Scotland, in 1860, she was the second daughter of Alexander Bulloch, a well-known engineer. In 1876 she married Mr Malcolm Russell. Two boys were bom in Scotland, but the younger was accidently drowned in the river Clyde in 1885. The young couple sailed for Australia, but soon afterwards Mr Russell died of sunstroke in Melbourne. A few months afterwards a daughter was bom. After two years of widowhood Mrs Russell married Mr Hugh Gamble, and the same year they left Australia for New Zealand. On their arrival they took up land at the Taieri, where they farmed until 1920, after which they retired at Mosgiel. After the death of their sop John in 1923 they removed to Central Otago, where they lived until three years ago, subsequently residing with their daughter in Dunedin. Mrs Gamble was a keen supporter of all shows, and was a professional baker even until a few years ago. She was always of a cheerful disposition, and her passing is regretted by a large circle of friends. She is survived by a her husband, three daughters—Mrs R. Roberts, nee Russell (Dunedin), Mrs J. R. Spratt (Dunedin), and Mrs T. J. Beleski (Dunedin)—and one son, Mr H. Gamble (Invercargill). There are also 14 grandchildren of her second marriage.
