A newcomer to the ranks of amateur runners in the city, G. Shand, who has joined the St. Paul’s Club, won the 100 yards from eight yards in 10 4-ssec. He showed quite a fair style. J. Shand won the half mile handicap' in 2mm lsec, beating V. Grenfell and G. McLaughlan. He ran from 80 yards. G. Shand also won the 220 yards. A. Drury put up a splendid performance in winning the one mile and ahalf cycle handicap. He rode a weiljudged race and had plenty of speed left at the finish, when he put on a burst that took him past the field to win by two lengths. . , . The field events were not particularly popular. AIRAM DROPS DEAD AT AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, November 7. Sly Fox and Blonde Princess were scratched at noon today for all their engagements at the Avondale fixture. Airam, who was owned by Mr W..H. Maria, dropped dead this morning when being led away to be hdsed down after doing pace work at Avondale. Airam was purchased by his owner as a yearling in Australia and had secured many wins in the last three years.
