Moderate Winds
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 11. Following is the special weathei forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate northerly winds. Weather fine but cloud increasing in the west Seas moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather continuing fair over most of the South Island; becoming unsettled again over the North Island, with rain spreading from the north and possibly extending as far as Nelson and Marlborough; some heavy falls .in the Auckland and Hawke’s Bay provinces Cool temperatures General Situation.—Pressure is high over the South Island, while a depression which is forming near Cape Maria Van Diemen is moving south-eastward on to the North Island. Winds.—Moderate to strong southerly to easterly continuing in the central provinces; elsewhere moderate northeasterly, changing to westerly later in the northern portion of the North Island. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough North of Farewell Spit and Kaikcura, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea. moderate southerly winds and moderate seas, but a change to freshening northerlies advancing across the southern portion.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm. The sun shone brightly in a cloudless sky and there was scarcely any wind. At one o’clock this morning the weather was clear, with a cold easterly wind.
