FULL CO-OPERATION PROMISED
UNION OF WORKERS AND LOCAL BODIES (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 13. At a meeting of the executive of the Wellington Local Bodies Officers' Industrial Union of Workers, embracing the whole of the local bodies within Ihe City of Wellington and the Wanganui, Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa districts, the question of possible difficulties which all parties to their awards may have to encounter under the present national emergency was discussed. It was appreciated that the staffs of various local bodies were likely tc be depleted by members going on military service and the union had been given to understand that some local bodies proposed to treat their staffs very generously while they were or service.
It was decided that a letter be sent to local bodies assuring them that it was the wish of the union to co-operate with such local bodies to the fullest extent. It was felt by the union that a gesture was needed as it was realized that the local body service, which was of vital importance to the national welfare of the Dominion, must be sustained by the fullest co-operation of all parties.
