TEMPERANCE UNION
Where can we look for a ray of hope, a beam of light, a refuge and shelter. When making reference to the great conflict among nations today, and the tremendous chaos in the world, these were some of the prefactory questions asked by the Rev. G. B. Hinton when addressing the members of the Soutn Invercargill branch of the Womens Christian Temperance Union on Tuesday afternoon in the Grace street hall. The speaker related the, story of St. Paul’s voyage to Rome, during which a storm arose and the crew was afraid, and the appearing of the angel who said to St. Paul “Fear not,” and because of St. Paul’s great faith not a soul was lost. The main part of his address, Mr Hinton based on these two words “Fear not,” concluding by advocating that by faith, confidence, and hope, good cheer and goodwill any commission in any just cause can be carried out. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. A letter of appreciation is to be forwarded to the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) for the stand taken to combat the evil practice of drinking at dance halls. On the other band a letter of protest was approved to go to the proper authority about “wet” canteens in soldiers’ camps.
