On Saturday at Ellerslie will be decided the first flat race of the season in New Zealand carrying a four-figure stake, the Mitchelson Cup. The records of the race are packed with surprises, and one has to go back eight years to find that the public correctly sorted the winner when they sent out Historic favourite. In a stirring finish he and an outsider in Prince Vai passed the post locked together for the judge to declare a dead h<’=t.
