KENNINGTON
ADDRESS ON MAORI CUSTOMS An interesting address was given by Mr H. Bennett, son of Bishop Bennett, of Hastings, to the children of the Kennington school on Maori customs and the life of the people. This was amplified by the screening of films depicting various Maori activities. The object of Mr Bennett’s visit was to raise funds to send a Maori party to England for the purpose of raising funds for destitute widows and children of returned soldiers. Mr E. Hargest, head master, thanked Mr Bennett. Roy Mills, on behalf of the school children, also expressed appreciation of the address. SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Kennington School Committee was held in the school, Mr D. McQueen presiding over the following:—Messrs A. Henderson, A. Sutherland, G. White and L. Burgess (secretary). Mr E. Hargest (head master) was also present. Arrangements were made for the purchase of annuals, for the school garden, and fertilizer. It was also decided to hold the annual school concert in December. Mr Hargest brought forward a suggestion to hold a parents’ day at the end of the month. It was decided to give full support to the staff in the matter.
