STATE OF GERMANY’S GROUND DEFENCES

WEAKNESS INDICATED BY PAMPHLET RAIDS

LONDON, September 12. Aviation experts are greatly satisfied that the Royal Air Force leaflet raids indicate that the German ground defences are weak. The pilots participating state that the searchlights were not operated on a single occasion. This indicates that the detectors failed to register the approach of the aeroplanes. It was not until the leaflets fluttered down that the defences came into action.

The anti-aircraft batteries were apparently weak and did not attempt a barrage. It is pointed out, however, that a real test could come only if important military objectives were bombed.

FREE GERMAN YOUTH • MOVEMENT VICTORY FOR FREEDOM DESIRED LONDON, September 12. In a message to the British Youth Peace Assembly the Free German Youth Movement says: We stand firm. You will achieve a victory for freedom. We greet you as we greet the glorious free Germany which will arise tomorrow. We who have been driven from Germany stand with you for the freedom of all the people subject to Hitler. There will be no peace until Hitlerism is defeated. We call on the young Germans of this country to join all forms of national service.
