OBITUARY

MR DAVID YOUNG Mr David Young, whose death has occurred in Dunedin, was a well-known resident of Arthurton before he went to spend his retirement in Dunedin. Mr Young’s parents settled at Arthurton in 1876 and he becarhe owner of the farm on the death of his father. Mr Young adopted the early practice of liming, and became one of the most successful farmers in the district. He was one of the first pupils at the Waipahi school, whose sixtieth anniversary celebrations he recently attended. Mr Young is survived by his widow and by his son, Mr David Young, of Arthurton. MR H. D. THOMSON (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 10. The death is announced of Mr H D. Thomson, a New Zealand Rugby representative in 1905 and 1908, when he played in Wanganui and Wellington respectively. As a member of the 1905 team he visited Australia, the British Isles, France and America and earned a reputation as a particularly clever back.
