OBITUARY
MRS JAMES LOCKETT The death has occurred at Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island, of Mrs J. Lockett, who claimed to be the first white girl bom on Stewart Island. She was born at Kaiarokaki, near The Neck, in 1864 and she was baptized on Ruapuke in 1868 by the Rev. F. Wohlers. Mrs Lockett was one of the first three scholars to attend the Half Moon Bay school, when it was opened in 1874. She was the third daughter of Captain R. Scollay. She was married in 1895 to Mr James Lockett and lived at Pegasus for five years, at Bluff for two years, and then returned to the island, living at Half Moon Bay. Mr Lockett was a farmer for 10 or 12 years before he retired. Mrs Lockett is survived by her husband, two sons, Messrs J. Lockett jun. (McLennan) and A. H. Lockett (Brisbane) and one daughter, Mrs Timpany (Invercargill). MRS ALICE HENDERSON The death occurred in Invercargill on Sunday of Mrs Alice Henderson, widow of Mr William Henderson, of Nelson street. Mrs Henderson was bora m England and came to New Zealand when a young girl. She was married in Oamaru. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
