FOOTBALL CLUB BALL

ANNUAL EVENT AT WYNDHAM The hall was decorated in the club’s colours for the annual ball held by the Wyndham Football Club on Tuesday evening. Extras were played by Mrs A. Cormack. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr L. Milne and Miss Dorothy Ross. Messrs R. McKay and J. Harper were masters of ceremonies. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs T. K. Clarke, Mr and Mrs G. Dillon and B. Printz (Invercargill). WEDDINGS McLEAN-MACKAY The wedding was solemnized in the Church of Christ, Teviot street, Invercargill, recently, of Roberta, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Mackay, Caroline, and Mervyn, younger son of Mrs Andrew McLean, Caroline, and the late Mr McLean. The ceremony was performed by Pastor V. C. Stafford and Mr J. W. Wood played the organ. The church was decorated by friends of the bride in cream and gold in keeping with the colour scheme of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr Donald Mackay, wore a gown of cream embossed cloque with a ruched bodice and heart-shaped neckline. The flared skirt fell into a graceful train. The veil of cream tulle was held in place by two gold camellias and she carried a shower bouquet of spring flowers. Her only jewellery was a gold pendant and chain. Attending the bride as matron of honour was the bride’s sister, Mrs J. Thomsen, who wore a model gown of wine embossed cloque. Her short veil was held in place by abutilons and she carried a shower bouquet of spring flowers. Mr John McLean, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The reception was held at Elmwood Garden. For travelling the bride wore a resida green frock with hat and accessories to match. She also wore a sable antelope coat. Mr and Mrs M. McLean will in future reside in Caroline. Guests from Dipton and Caroline who attended the wedding were Mr ana Mrs J. Mackay, Mr and Mrs C. Mackintosh, Mr and Mrs J. McLean, Mesdames A. McLean, J. Tregonning, G. Musslewhite, Misses I. Craig, M. Mackintosh, B. Taylor and Mr L. Craig. MOORE—RICHARDS The wedding was solemnized in the North Invercargill Presbyterian Church recently of Madge Hayes, second daughter of the late Mr W. Richards and Mrs Richards, Newcastle street, and Stewart Dominion, second son of Mr and Mrs W. Moore, of Riverton. The Rev. Hugh Graham performed the ceremony and Miss V. Frew (Makarewa), cousin of the bride, played the wedding music. The church was decorated by friends of the bride.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr A. Richards, wore, a frock of white silk velvet, cut on slimfitting lines and trimmed with a row of tiny buttons down the back. Buttons also trimmed the square neckline and a gathered inset adorned the waist and sleeves, the skirt falling into a circular train. An embroidered veil surmounted by a halo of orange blossoms completetd her toilette. Her bouquet was of white chrysanthemums, freesias, and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Beryl Whyte, wore a frock of apple green velvet, trimmed with gold ornaments and a halo of pleated tulle on a foundation of gold braid. She wore gold shoes and carried a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums with matching streamers. Ruby Martin, niece of the bride, was flower girl and wore a frock of green taffeta, with a matching coatee of green velvet, her halo of tulle was similar to the bridesmaid’s and she carried a posy of golden flowers. The bridegroom’s brother, Mr Colin Moore, was best man. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a gold horseshoe by little May Myron. The reception was held in the Tudor Lounge, where Mrs Richards, assisted by Mrs Moore, received the guests. The former wore a floral silk frock, under a black coat, and hat to match. Her shoulder spray was of bronze chrysanthemums. ' For travelling the bride wore a navy blue model frock, with navy coat, hat, and accessories to match. The future home of Mr and Mrs Moore will be in Newcastle street, Invercargill. Before her marriage the bride was given a gift afternoon by the bridesmaid. PEART—GIBSON The marriage was quietly solemnized at Riverton on Thursday of Stella Margaret, third daughter of Mrs T. H. Gibson, of Dunedin, and the late Mr Gibson, and Albert James, son of Mr A. Peart, Riverton. Afterwards, a reception was held at the Aparima Hotel. The future home of Mr and Mrs A. J. Peart will be at South Riverton. COUNTRY NEWS WOODLANDS Miss Agnes Rusbatch, of Dunedin, is staying in Woodlands as the guest of Mrs A. A. Heenan. Mr and Mrs C. Frew have returned from Lower Shotover, where they were staying with Mr J. Bagrie and Miss Bagrie. Miss Betty McHardy spent a few days with friends in Mandeville recently.
