TRUCK-DRIVER FINED £20
INTOXICATION CHARGE AT LUMSDEN William Patterson McCauley, a farm labourer, of The Key, Mossburn, pleaded guilty, before Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M., in the Lumsden Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, to a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motortruck at Lumsden on Saturday, July 22. McCauley was convicted and fined £2O, costs £l/1/-, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. He was given two months in which to pay. His driving licence was suspended and he was prohibited from renewing it for two years. On McCauley’s own application a prohibiton order was taken out against him for 12 months. Constable H. J. Thompson said that on the afternoon of Saturday, July 22, he saw McCauley, who was very drunk, get into his motor-truck, which was parked in front of the Lumsden and Lakes Motor Company’s garage, and attempt to drive away. He arrested him before he did so. McCauley was later examined by Dr L. G. Bell and declared unfit to drive a motor-vehicle.
